Setting up

What do I need?

An iPhone or iPad for your child running iOS 18 or later, signed into a child Apple Account in your Family Sharing group, and your own iPhone. Apple's Screen Time system only allows parental controls on child accounts inside a family.

Order of setup
  1. On your phone: install KidWall, choose "Parent phone", note the pairing code.
  2. On your child's device: install KidWall, choose "This is a kid's device", approve with your Apple Account password, set a name and a parent PIN.
  3. Still on the child's device: PIN → Remote Control → enter the pairing code.
  4. Pick the apps and sites to block on the child's device (Apple ties those choices to the device they were made on). Everything else can be changed from your phone.
"Authorization failed" on the child's device

The device isn't signed into a child account in your Family Sharing group, or the password prompt was cancelled. Check Settings → [name] → Family, then try again.

Everyday use

How fast do changes reach the child's device?

Usually within seconds. If the device is in a poor-coverage area or has Background App Refresh off, it catches up on its own within about 8 minutes.

My child asked for more time

Tapping "Ask for more time" on the block screen sends you a notification. Open the device on your phone and tap +15, +30 or +60 — or "No".

Location isn't showing

On the child's device: PIN → Remote Control → "Share this device's location" on, then tap "Location permission" and choose Always. To stop a child changing it later: Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → Location Services → Don't Allow Changes.

Can both parents use it?

Yes. Install KidWall on the other parent's phone, choose "Parent phone", and enter the same pairing code (Remote Control → pair).

Privacy & data

What do you see?

Nothing. The data that syncs between your phones is encrypted with a key made from your pairing code before it leaves the phone. Details in the privacy policy.

Delete my data

On the child's device: Remote Control → "Unpair & delete this device's iCloud data". On your phone: Privacy & your data → "Delete all family data". Deleting the app removes everything stored on that device.

Removing KidWall

How do I turn everything off?

On the child's device: PIN → "Remove all restrictions", then delete the app. Because you approved it with your Apple Account, your child can't do this without you.
